Organic Syrah
Intriguing from the moment the bottle is opened the appeal of this Syrah is obvious from its elegant aromatics. Savour its violet floral on the nose, followed on the palate by layers of dark blackberries and juniper offset by earthy, smokey character framed by a dash of oak and spice.
ORGANIC VINEYARDS
Specially selected from one of Marlborough’s oldest and most highly regarded organic vineyards, the depth of flavour in this limited release wine is the result of the care and attention which is lavished on this vineyard. The north-facing vineyard was planted in 1993 for organic, high density grape growing. The high density planting uses the vines competition for soil and nutrients to reduce vigour and create focus on root structure, which in turn delivers highly concentrated fruit.
SYRAH VINTAGE & CLIMATE
The 2015 harvest was hot and dry. Our winemaking team decided the date for handpicking by tasting the fruit regularly and choosing the time when the fruit was ripe and had tannin structure.
The season’s warmth meant picking was earlier than average. However, the careful selection of the harvest date ensured the fruit acid was well developed, which is vital for a premium quality wine.
VINTAGE
As is the Giesen organic way every care was lavished upon these vines which were hand tended from veraison to picking. After selective hand picking by block, the fruit was immediately taken on the short journey to the winery where it was gently de-stemmed as soon as it arrived. Continuing to treat the fruit with very care to unlock its luscious flavour, the de-stemmed fruit was added to open top fermenters using gravity to help to keep the fruit intact.
WINEMAKING
To maximise its deep colour it was cold soaked for five to seven days to enable early development of colour and flavour. Practising ‘hands-off winemaking’ the team left the fruit to macerate for a further 14 days to ensure maximum flavour, before pressing it in a traditional basket press. From here the free run juice was aged in French oak 300L barrels for 12 months ahead of bottling.
VINE AGE
Small amounts of Syrah were planted in this organic vineyard in 1992 and the age of these vines directly contributes to the depth of flavour in the wine.
CELLARING
With only 150 cases of this wine made buy a case - so you don’t miss out. We recommend giving in and savouring some now and putting the rest in the cellar. Those with the patience to age this wine will be rewarded as cellaring for another five - seven years will add to its intensity and depth of flavour.

ORGANIC SYRAH
Organic Pinot Noir
This Pinot Noir comes from an organic vineyard specially planted in 1.5 metre rows, at around four times the planting density of regular vineyards. The high density planting uses the vines competition for soil and nutrients to reduce vigour and create focus on root structure, which in turn delivers fruit with highly concentrated flavour.

PINOT NOIR VINTAGE & CLIMATE
Great weather meant the 2015 vintage delivered - our team were delighted by quality fruit with intensity of flavour. The warmth allowed early picking, which meant the fruit had lower sugar levels allowing the depth of flavour to shine through and ensuring the finished wines show great terroir.

VINE AGE
Since they were planted in 2010 these vines have received the ‘royal’ treatment - meticulous hands-on viticultural practice which includes thinning by hand, handpicking and organic management.
CELLARING
Of course, with so little of this wine made the best advice is to buy a case and cellar half and give the rest over to immediate (delicious) gratification. We’ve already done some of the hard work, ageing this wine in cellar. Those with patience will be rewarded as cellaring for another five years will only add to its intensity and depth of flavour.
